Charles von Herrlich (b. 1967, Boston), classically trained Sculptor/ Painter, who attended Andy Warhol’s New York Academy of Art’s Master Scholarship program from 1986-87. He graduated from Brooklyn’s Pratt Institute in 1994.
von Herrlich created and built Von Bar, on the Bowery in lower Manhattan in 1995, and has remained owner/ operator ever since. Von Bar has been an important part of both the beverage industry, as well as the art and music culture of New York since its founding.
von Herrlich’s art can be found adorning the walls and niche’s of Von Bar. He also takes part in numerous design and building projects, mostly in the bar and restaurant community of greater New York.
von Herrlich maintains his New York studio as well, and periodically participates in exhibitions of his work.
He is currently historically preserving a 100 year old stone cottage in upstate New York, with the same local Hemlock post and lintel framing with which it was initially built.
